Michelle Gall, CPA

Michelle has been in public accounting since 2003 and has 15 years of experience auditing employee benefit plans. Prior to joining B\VAL in 2016, she was a senior manager for Moss Adams LLP for 8 years. At Moss Adams LLP, Michelle led the Eugene office’s Employee Benefit Plan Group. Michelle’s experience also includes auditing and accounting for companies in the manufacturing, forest products, and food processing industries. Additionally, she provides consulting services on business acquisitions, internal controls, budgeting and forecasting, and cash management and cash flow analysis. Michelle has experience training accounting and auditing personnel in new accounting and auditing standards, including those standards specific to employee benefit plans. She regularly attends the annual AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Conference. Michelle has served on the boards of local not-for-profit organizations including the Eugene Public Library Foundation and the Lane Coalition for Healthy Active Youth (LCHAY). Michelle is currently an advisor/mentor with the University of Oregon’s New Venture Planning & Technology Entrepreneurship Program and also serves on the Board of Stewards for Looking Glass.

Thor Yarbrough, CPA

Thor began in public accounting in 2004 and has over 10 years of experience auditing benefit plans. Thor joined B\VAL in January 2015 as the firm leader of assurance services. Prior to joining B\VAL, Thor was a senior manager with Moss Adams LLP where his area focus was providing assurance services to forest products, construction, and manufacturing businesses. Thor was also an assurance services quality control leader in the Eugene office of Moss Adams beginning in 2008 and until leaving to join B\VAL. Thor is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants. Thor is also currently a member of the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce Finance Committee and a volunteer on the OSCPA Construction Industry Project Committee.

Chris Valentine, CPA

A former partner of Moss Adams LLP, Chris formed B\VAL CPAs & Advisors in July 2011, specializing in the construction, real estate and manufacturing/distribution industries with an emphasis on emerging enterprises.  While at Moss Adams, Chris served as the firm’s lead Tax Partner for the Construction Industry Group and represented the firm on the national Tax and Fiscal Affairs committee of the Associated General Contractors. In addition to his 11 years with Moss Adams, Chris spent 4 years as the Chief Accounting and Tax Officer with a national industrial contractor and 8 years with a national public accounting firm, the last two as Director of Tax Services in their Phoenix, Arizona practice where he specialized in high technology manufacturing and merger/acquisition planning.  Chris currently serves as the Treasurer and a member of the Executive Board of Directors for the Oregon Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America, a board member for Agape Youth and serves on the Finance Committee of SquareOne Village. Chris has been an advisor/mentor with the University of Oregon’s New Venture Planning & Technology Entrepreneurship Program for five years.

Christopher Palmer, CPA

Chris has been in public accounting since 2008.  Prior to joining B\VAL in 2013, he was an employee for Kernutt Stokes LLP for 5 years. His experience includes federal and state tax compliance focused primarily on privately held local businesses and individuals. Chris provides a variety of services mostly focused on tax compliance, tax planning, tax research and business consulting. Chris is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants. Chris is a Eugene Oregon native, graduating from Sheldon High School in 2001. He graduated from BYU-Hawaii as a dual major in Accounting and International Business Management. Chris enjoys spending his free time with his wife and two boys, getting outdoor for hiking, swimming, biking, gardening and basketball.

Jeff Raschio, CPA

A native Eugenian, Jeff Raschio graduated from Marist High before moving on to the University of Oregon. He graduated from the UofO with a BS in Business Administration, and subsequently completed an accounting program through Linfield College. Prior to public accounting, Jeff worked for four years in commercial banking with US Bank in Eugene. He earned the CMA certification in 2017, and was licensed as a CPA in 2019.

Ivan Besemann, CPA

Ivan L. Besemann opened his office as a sole-proprietor in Eugene, OR on December 1, 1975.  His mission has always been to serve the public with fairness and integrity while building strong client business relationships in the process.  In July 2011, he merged his practice with Chris Valentine, CPA.He graduated from Minot School of Business in 1966 in North Dakota, and began his accounting career the same year in Walla Walla, Washington.   His career moved him to Tacoma and Bremerton, Washington, and Anchorage, Alaska before he settled in Eugene, Oregon.  He served as the President of Oregon Association of Independent Accountants (OAIA) from 2004-2006 and represented OAIA on the Oregon Board of Accountancy for 2 years. Ivan has been married to his wife, Robyn for over 46 years and they have a married son and daughter, Scott and Tami.  He enjoys travelling, boating, and fishing.

Jessica Bott, LTP

Jess Bott has been an accountant at B\VAL CPAs & Advisors since 2008. Jessica leads the firm’s small business consulting practice. She provides a range of tax, accounting, and business consulting services to businesses and individuals, including tax return preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, QuickBooks consulting, and accounting software selection. Jessica is originally from North Dakota where she attended and graduated from North Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting while working full-time. Jessica has served on the board of Howard Elementary PTO and has been an active volunteer and coordinator at numerous school functions and events. She also volunteers for small, local non-profits by providing her accounting expertise on a pro bono basis.  In her spare time she enjoys baking, playing softball, and exploring Oregon with her husband Shaun and her two sons Austin and Oliver.

Eric Pitkin, LTP

Eric Pitkin joined BVAL in December of 2018. Eric is originally from New Hampshire but has called Eugene home for the last 12 years. Eric has over 8 years providing bookkeeping, accounting, consulting and tax services to small businesses in a variety of industries, including 5 years with a large regional public accounting firm. Prior to entering the accounting world, Eric was a small-business owner in the food industry.  In his free time, Eric enjoys cycling.

Katherine Baker, CPA

Katherine Baker is a CPA with over ten years of experience in public accounting and three years of private accounting experience. She graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor’s of Science and continued her education in the accounting program at University of Oregon. Katherine has joined the BVAL tax team with a focus on businesses and individuals as well as planning and consulting engagements. Her experience includes federal and state tax reporting for individuals, manufacturing, forest products and not-for-profit organizations. In her spare time, Katherine enjoys exploring all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer with her family and friends.

Nicke Parks, CPA

Nicke Parks is a CPA with a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting from the University of Oregon and Masters of Business Taxation from the University of Southern California. Her experience includes federal and state tax compliance for individuals and tax-exempt entities as well as corporations and partnerships spanning a broad range of industries. When not at work, she enjoys playing basketball, riding motorcycles, and spending time with her two dogs. She also is an active member of the Eugene chapter of Active 20-30 International.

Victoria Poe

Since September of 2018, Victoria Poe has been the voice that greets you on the phone and the smiling face you see when you come in. On top of her general administrative duties, she assists with client payroll and bookkeeping and keeps office operations running smoothly. Prior to joining our team she worked at Cornerstone Services, Inc. for 5 years as a Case Manager, expanding and developing a variety of professional skills along the way. In her spare time Victoria enjoys reading, hiking, antiquing, hosting parties, and playing D&D with her husband and friends.
